Gilded Bronze Clock Holder made in 1900.

Beautiful gilded bronze watch holder made in 1900. Original and rare rectangular watch holder formed by a central mirror with the contour decorated with a beautiful vegetable fantasy in gilded bronze, which ends in a triangular frieze with a pineapple at the top. In the lower vertexes stand out two delicate putti in bronze, placed backwards, that support the composition marking a beautiful contrast of color with the vegetal fantasy. On the upper part of the mirror there is a small hook used to hang the pocket watches while they were not in use. The piece is in perfect condition, both the decoration and the mirror, and all parts are original. The invention of the spring mechanism in 1500 gave rise to portable watches that were worn on a cord. These first clocks were considered true pieces of jewelry, used in those early years as simple ornaments, since in most cases they did not tell the time correctly. In 1670 the minute hand appeared, as well as the minute divisions on the dials, and the time could be clearly seen, being a much more functional device. Eventually the lever escapement replaced the other escapements, and was used in practically all mechanical watches. For many years pocket watches were worn, but in the late nineteenth century, early twentieth century a wide diversity of decorations were developed in them, due to the boom that this type of pieces continued to have a great success among the wealthier classes of society. All of them have a ring in the crown that allows to hook them to a chain to be able to carry them in the pocket. This type of original object with a hook was very useful when the watch was not in use.
