This lovely antique violin is a masterpiece made in 1865 by prestigious artisan Charles Gaillard. Gaillard was born in Mirecourt and did his apprenticeship as violinmaker in the Parisian atelier of great Charles Adolphe Gand. Later he opened his own studio in Paris where he made high quality violins from 1850 to 1880. Gaillards violins are of real works of art, notably in his scrolls and work on the arching. Gaillard followed his masters style based in famous Stradivari designs. The violin that we see in the photographs is a beautiful piece with high attention to detail. It has survived to our days in good condition and comes in its original case. Even being well preserved, this violin shows an old restoration that we can see in the rib. Surely it is worth taking this instrument to a good luthier who will bring it back to life and beauty and make it sound again with its best vibrations. Furthermore the violin is in good shape, keeping all its original components and the fine deep varnish that protects and embellishes the wood.Through the f-holes in the belly we can see the inner label with the signature and address of the violinmaker. There is an inscription in it where we can read the words CHARLES GAILLARD Ntre. DAME DE RECOUVRANCE Nº 20 PARIS, 1865.The violin comes with its bow, in excellent condition, and both pieces are stored into the beautiful original case. This piece is entirely made of wood and inside is covered by dark red and blue velvet. The case is divided in different compartments with lid, designed to house the spare pieces and accessories. The bow can be fixed into the cases lid. This violin is an exclusive piece of superior value and aesthetical interest that deserves to belong to the most demanding virtuoso.
