Mother-of-pearl fan illuminated by hand on both sides, XIX century. Fan with rods made of mother-of-pearl with openwork shapes decorated with silver and gold metal inlays, marking a rich contrast. It consists of 20 straight and very thin rods. The nail or vitrola, made of metal, has a very original star-shaped crowned by a garnet gem. The country of this fan is made of paper and is decorated on both sides. It is the most decorative part of the fan, made to attract attention, painted with bright colors and touched with gold that run along the ends with floral shapes. The front part represents a court scene set in a forest with trees and even a lake or river, occupying practically all the space and executed with extreme exquisiteness. Three scenes are presented together. On the left a couple converses while advancing towards the central area. In the center, a knight in armor kneels before a lady accompanied by her father, in a scene that appears to be a proposal of marriage. To the right, on the water's edge, ladies accompanied by a knight converse animatedly in what appears to be a family scene. On the reverse of the white background there is a mythological scene in which a goddess dressed in Greek costume is lifted by three angels to a cloud. The country has some breaks, typical of the material and the time elapsed, although it does not detract from the beauty of this precious fan. It also attaches its original case lined in green cloth, decorated with small floral shapes that also make it very decorative and protect it from external aggressions.Beautiful vintage fan. Undoubtedly a very special gift.Measures: 27 x 51 cm.
