Bone Fan Illuminated by Hand on Both Sides, XIX century. Fan with rods made of bone with marked openwork shapes, decorated with metal inlays. It consists of 16 rods of undulating profile and beautiful workmanship. The nail or vitrola, made of mother-of-pearl, has the shape of a small spherical button and is attached to a golden metal ring, decorated with vegetal forms, and finished with a golden and bone tassel. It is in perfect condition, with no cracks or flaking. The country of a fan is conceived to be striking. When it opens before our eyes, it intends to surprise us with its virtuosity, luxury and colorful effects. The pictorial compositions are made to be contemplated both statically and in movement, hence the precision of the details is often subordinated, giving priority to the sensation of the whole. The country of this fan is made of paper and is decorated on both sides. The front side is decorated with a floral framework dotted with fruits such as peaches and grapes, and divided into three decorative registers framed in medallions of undulating profile. The right medallion presents a court scene in which a girl appears reading on a balcony and a gentleman, located behind her, accompanies her. The medallion on the left shows a family scene in which a mother and daughter, dressed in regional costume, walk together holding hands. The central medallion, of a larger size, presents a scene in which a gentleman is presenting a lady with a bird that he has just taken out of the green cage that a girl is holding. The reverse of the fan, with a white background, has a central medallion flanked by a gold-colored floral lattice that repeats the naturalistic style of the front. In the center of the medallion two shepherdesses converse animatedly in a meadow.Beautiful and decorative fan that will delight a good collection.Measures: 26,5 x 51 cm.
