This elegant campaign writing slope is a 100% original and unique piece, not only because its age (it was made in 1876) but due to the beauty of its materials, its sober design and its excellent condition. It has been completely restored, inside and outside, and the great wood veneer is highlighted by the warmth of the varnish. The brass reinforcements in the corners and the two plates that go across the wood are in really good condition, as shiny and polished as the first day. If the exterior is spectacular, the inside is also really special. The worktop is covered in grey leather, and the two covers can be opened to show the compartments designed to house the writing material. Besides the typical compartments for the ink and the pens, this case has also two secret drawers. They appear when a hidden lever is operated. On the other side, the lock is operational and keeps the original key. On the upper side we can see a brass plate embedded in the wood, with a dedicatory. The inscription says that the writing case was a Christmas present for a Mr. Taylor, given to him by the laboratory students in 1876. The plate is in excellent condition, and the inscription appears clear and neat. It is just one more detail that really embellishes this campaign writing case, and makes it worth belonging to the most prestigious collection.
