Luxurious Victorian Jewel Case Dating From the 20ht Century, Made of Mahogany Palm Wood. With Brass Reinforcements and Bronze Plate Aristocratic Victorian jewel case from the 19th century, an authentic antique which surely belonged to some high society lady because of its noble materials and beautiful making. The box has a rectangular shape and it is made of mahogany palm wood, which is well known because its irregular waving veneer and its deep color, which goes from dark red to light gold. The cover is softly curves and the inside edges are painted black. The wood is richly adorned with brass plates: the keyhole, the corners and the cover. The plates are curved and are attached to the wood with shiny brass round-headed nails. The jewel case has the original key and lock, and they work perfectly. On the cover there is an element which turns this item in a very special piece: it is decorated with a rectangular plate made of bronze, which has an engraved scene. It is a bucolic and romantic picture with a gentleman kneeling in front of his lady, both surrounded by a lush forest in which we can also see a column, probably part of a fountain. The bronze is in good condition and has a deep reddish black tone. This plate is also framed by a brass plate, polished and wavy. Inside there is a removable tray, carefully partitioned. The inside of the jewel case is covered by the original satin lining. The cover has a cushioned fuchsia lining, with a folded strip in the center designed to hangs jewels from. The box is covered in white satin, and the tray shows a pink satin lining and some parts covered with silver and white paper. The biggest compartment is closed by a charming cover, lined in fuchsia cushioned satin and with a central golden ring to pick it up. Given the old age of this piece, all the parts are in good condition and are especially appealing as they are the original ones. In essence, this is a lovely toiletry item which will delight any lady who loves to keep her treasures in a real Victorian jewel case, full of charm and nobility.
