Fine campaign or ship writing slope, made in the XIXth century. The first thing that catches our eye is its good condition. The writing slope is made of mahogany and root wood, which show a beautiful reddish color and a warm glow provided by the original French polish. The article keeps two nice glass inkpots with brass covers and also a small pen, all of them original. We can also see some brass reinforces which embellish the wooden surface, perfectly polished and which protect the writing slopes corners from the bumps. This object also keeps the elegant original keyboard, the lock and the key that operates it. The front parts and the cover of the writing slope are made of root wood, whose intricate and wavy black veneer embellishes the writing slope when it is closed. The front parts come from the same board, so when we close the slope we can see that the veneer continues from one to the other. If we open it we will see the inside writing surface, covered with a dark-green leather piece whose border is finely engraved with a golden filigree. Both the leather and the filigree are in good condition. There is an interesting detail which will surely attract our interest: the presence of two secret drawers or compartments. The mechanism we must operate to reach them has been modified because one of the original parts is missing and has been substituted by a new one. Apart from this detail, all the parts, pieces and accessories of this writing slope are a hundred per cent original and have reached our days in very good condition. This writing slope is surely a luxury item, full of charm and beauty, which will be the perfect gift for a lover of the most exclusive and original antiques. Measurements (open): 505 mm length x 120 mm height.
