Great English Victorian tea chest, made in the 19th century and in very good condition. This piece has been restored so that the wood can boast its beauty in its full splendor. The chest is made of mahogany wood, whose attractive deep red color and flame-shaped veneer stand out thanks to the nice French polish that covers this object, and which has been fully restored while respecting its ancient age. The chest preserves all its original parts and comes with a vintage glass, though not the original one. The Victorian era coincides with Queen Victorias reign, who reigned during 64 years. The Industrial Revolution took place during those times, and it was an era of global change for Europe. This kind of small decorative furniture is typical of the Victorian style, mahogany being then the most popular wood. In this case, this tea chest has an attractive rectangular shape and few ornaments, except for the brass lion head-shaped handles on each side. The wood is decorated with black-lacquered details at the base and the edges, as well as on the compartments´ lids. The chest stands on four ball-shaped legs with a decoration of leaves, also made of brass and matching to the keyhole and the handles. The compartments´ lids have small white knobs to lift them without any problem. The chest has five compartment designed to store different kinds of tea and accesories to prepare and taste the drink. The central one has no lid: it consists of a cylindrical hole which houses a glass. The inside of the chests cover boasts a smart inlay detail, in the shape of a diamond and made of light yellow wood, which decorates the object with style and class. The lock is not operating but the chest can be opened and shut without any problem, thanks to the brass hinges which are in perfect condition.
