Wonderful hand-carved solid-wooden humidor made in the 19th century and fully restored by a skillful professional. This humidor is a really imposing piece more than one hundred years old that has survived to our days in amazing condition. The wood has been restored in order to regain the fine color and its striking satin finish. This is a Black-Forest-style piece, a style that emerged in the region of Brienz (Swiss part of the Black Forest) and became very popular in the first half of the 19th century. The Black-Forest-style pieces of furniture are made of noble solid woods like oak, cedar and walnut. They are usually decorated with charmingly kitsch hand-carved naturalist and rustic motives that depict logs, branches and big leaves. We can see this type of decoration in this lovely humidor, where the solid wood has been skillfully carved in order to depict a series of wooden planks horizontally disposed. The rustic and bold effect of the carving creates a very special piece with a singular decorative potential. The front side shows a carved branch with three leaves, a classic motive of this style. The humidor contains five wooden trays with ten grooves each. The grooves are carved in order to keep the cigars orderly disposed. The trays are made of a light-colored wood with a fine veneer and a beautiful color gradation. The humidor preserves the original lock in perfect working order; this feature, together with its decorative potential, turns it into an item worthy to belong to a good cigar expert or to any lover of original antiques. For its artisanal work and great personality, this antique humidor is a really singular, original and appealing piece.
