Fine antique cigar humidor in very good condition and with an elegant design. The humidor is made of tropical mahogany wood, a material that stands out for its bright dark red color, deep veneer and high density. The cabinet is dated in the early 20th century and has survived to our days in fine condition. Outside it bears a beautiful French-polish finis that protects the wood and enhances its vibrant reddish brown color. The front side mounts a shutter door with all its original slats and sliding perfectly. The lock and the key are original from the period and remain in perfect working order, making it possible to preserve the cigars safety and in good humidity conditions. Outside the humidor is decorated with brass details that make a fine contrast with the dark wood. The top of the cabinet bears embedded brass strips that make up a rectangle; the sides front edges are also covered by brass strips and so is the humidors base. The pull to open and close the shutter door is also made of brass. Inside the humidor is equipped with five sliding trays, each one with two brass knobs and with compartments for 10 cigars. Altogether, the cabinet can store 50 cigars in perfect order. Under the trays there is a small drawer with the humidors lock. This lovely antique humidor made of tropical mahogany wood is the best place to store first-class cigars, for its decorative beauty and functionality. Measurements: Width: 9.6 in / 24 cm. When it is shaped as a cabinet, it is also used to show cigar collections in an elegant and functional way. Before the 18th century Europeans mostly smoked tobacco in pipes; cigars did not become really popular until the 19th century. The first cigar humidor is thought to have been created by the Irish furniture maker Terence Manning who brought exotic woods and cabinetry techniques from South Africa in 1887. His family business became renowned for their handcrafted humidors and the techniques expanded all over Europe and America. Another pioneer in the field was Zino Davidoff, the first one who built a cellar humidor. His family traded in cigars so they had to design a structure to keep them under the ideal humidity conditions. This cellar is believed to have been built in the early 20th century.
