Wonderful antique hand-carved tricycle with metal wheels and component parts, in very good condition. This horse-shaped vehicle is dated circa 1900 (between the late 19th century and the early 20th century) and is a charming piece, a nostalgic and beautiful item with a strong decorative power. The tricycles body is a lovely wooden horse, perfectly carved and proportioned and with all the details. The horse is complete and in really good condition, with only some punctual restorations in the painting. It is attached to the tricycles frame, a metal structure composed of bars, gears, pedals and wheels. Though this item is a decorative piece, it could still be ridden by a kid. The harnesses are carved in the wood and so are the saddle, the blanket underneath, the horses expressive eyes and its mouth, nostrils and ears. The manes are also carved by hand, by the tail is composed of a bunch of esparto ropes in black and natural colors. The ropes are original from the time and are a very attractive detail that provides this charming tricycle with even more authenticity. The three wheels are big in size. Each one has a wooden ring attached to a frame composed of spokes. Outside, the wooden rings are reinforced by metal strips. The wheels are connected to a frame of welded bars with metal pieces that fix this frame to the wooden horse. The front pedals are in good working order and so is the steering system; the systems vertical axe goes through the horses neck and emerges at the top of its head, being crowned by the handlebars. Perfect to decorate a fine corner in a special dining room or bedroom, this antique horse-shaped wooden tricycle displays the unmistakable charm of turn-of-the-century toys.
