Antique Hand-Carved Chest or Jewelry Box. Spain, Dated 1926

Antique hand-carved chest or jewelry box, made in Spain and dated 1926. This is a solid wooden piece with a delicate inlaid decoration made of pieces of mother-of-pearl, wood and metal. The chest is really beautiful, made with a high attention to detail and with a stylish and lovely design. It is adorned with symmetrical hand-carved motifs covering all the surface, including the wooden plate under the lid which hides a black leather envelope. The inlaid decoration is composed of mother-of-pearl, mahogany and lemongrass pieces; it is finely preserved and no piece is missing. There are also small silvery and bluish metal balls which provide the chest with an original look. The lock is missing a piece so it cannot be locked with a key, although I think it has never had a key but a mechanical lock. Inside the chest is divided in two compartments; the wood is covered by a beautiful antique coral-colored silk lining, with delicate beige and green embroidered flowers. To the left we find a small drawer; at the back it has a hand-written inscription with the year 1926.
