Complete and delicate English vanity set in wooden chest, made in 1917. The case and the utensils are in great condition. The chest is made of solid rosewood and looks really great. The outside is varnished with a French polish finish and bears the beautiful irregular veneer typical of this attractive wood. The chest has several compartments and it has also a hidden drawer, discreetly located on the right side. The wood is in good condition and none of the inner dividers is missing. The chests key, adorned with a nice pink satin tassel, is original and operates the lock like new. Both the chest and the vanity set which it contains are British, and they were made in Birmingham. The boxes, utensils and the flasks lids are made of solid silver and all bear hallmarks. The flasks are made of hand-cut glass, beautiful and elegant, which is in very good condition in spite of their fragility and ancient age. Another remarkable feature is the manicure set, consisting of different utensils with lovely handles made of carved mother-of-pearl. The keyhole and the oval plate embedded in the chests cover are also made of this gorgeous material. The inside of the cover and the trays for the utensils are covered by dark green velvet, a wonderfully luxurious linen whose nice color creates a great contrast with the golden brown tone of the wood. The openwork decoration of the boxes lids is also highly appealing, formed by simple and delicate vegetal motives. The removable trays edges are painted black, another fine detail of a piece fit to stand out on the most elegant and stylish dresser. Measurements: 305 mm width x 340 mm height.
