Elegant and decorative antique writing slope, made in France in the late 19th century. This article was made in the most popular decorative style of Napoleon the Third era (1808-1873), which represented a renaissance of ancient baroque decoration in furniture. This lovely writing slope is made of wood, with embossed moldings and details made of wood filler. Its excellent condition is really remarkable and turns this piece into a real luxury antique. The slope is made of several golden brown wood planks, probably walnut, with two upper lids made of another noble wood with a deep dark veneer on a golden background. The outside wood filler decoration, baroque and full of detail, appears on the lids but also frames the sides and adorns the writing slopes nice curved legs. This decoration combines curved and wavy moldings with floral details very much to the taste of the era. The slope has a French polish finish, whose warm glow enhances beautifully the color of the wood and the embossed ornaments. The inside is compartmented so the papers, letters, envelopes and documents can be perfectly organized. The two upper lids are lined with green moiré satin inside, a delicate silk with a subtle watery effect. The lining is the original one and though it shows the logical signs of the trace of time, it has survived to our days in quite good condition. The slim planks which separate the compartments are very well preserved; they are made of a reddish wood, maybe mahogany, and there is no one missing. The writing slope keeps its original lock though not the key. It is surely a perfectly functional piece even now, that provides a great aesthetic beauty and all the majesty of French antiques.
