Striking antique forging lock mounted on a solid wood plank. This is a really ancient article which dates from the 17th century. The piece has come to our days in optimal condition though it cannot be open as the key is blocked. Nevertheless it keeps its beautiful look, provided by its complex design and the attention to detail that shows the delicate decoration that adorns the iron. The padlock keeps all its components: the bolt, the chain, the key All these parts are original from those times and are perfectly preserved. The article is mounted on a raw solid wooden plank, with deep veneer and solid look, which enhances considerably the padlocks beauty.This curious pieces central body is carefully decorated with engravings performed in the metal. It is a series of decorative designs composed of slim lines that form volutes, filigree, arcs, borders and vegetal-inspired motives. This is the most decorative part and is made up of several mobile parts. On the right side we can see a profusely decorated lever whose end is inserted into a ring at the end of the chain. This chain was originally designed to be attached to the piece that the user wanted to keep locked; in this case it is nailed to the wooden plank. In the center of the article, just at the bottom we find the key that operates the mechanism.On the left side of the padlock there is another mobile piece which catches the bolts end. This bolt is at the top of the article and passes through two solid iron pieces attached to the wooden plank. Its right end bows to enter the body of the padlock. All the components make up a fascinating framework resulting into a highly rustic and beautiful item with an appealing design. This antique padlock, which is more than four hundred years old, is a very uncommon and exclusive piece which will stand out in the best collection or into a showcase with the greatest forging pieces.
