This makes them practical and very popular instruments for naval use. This particular one is an aneroid barograph whose mechanism registers the pressure changes through the dilatation and contraction movements undergone by a sealed bellow located into the urn. A metal pointer with an ink deposit at the tip is connected to de bellows disks and transfers the mentioned movements to a graphic paper roll. The barographs clockwork movement rotates the roll. The instrument sits on a wooden plank where the brass base is embedded. In the center of the base we can see the engraved Richard Frères (RF) monogram together with the inscripcion BREVETES SGDG PARIS and serial number 109908.
