Amazing ship aneroid barograph or recording barometer made in France in the 1920s. The barograph is in good condition and works like new. All its parts are original except for the pointer: instead of the classic ink deposit the device mounts a felt-tip that provides it with an excellent operation. This barograph has an eight-capsule aneroid bellow that turns it into a very precise device. The item was manufactured by prestigious company Richard Frères from Paris and we can see the brand`s monogram engraved in the brass base.Richard Frères (Richard Brothers) was a French company founded in Paris by Hyles and Max Richard. The firm manufactured precision measurement instruments. The brothers actually dissolved the partnership in 1891 but Jules Richard kept on making instruments with the monogram RF engraved in them. These same initials are engraved in this barograph, a device designed to measure the atmospheric pressure. Aneroid barographs have no liquid elements inside (such as mercury) and work recording the sealed metal bellows movements produced when atmospheric pressures squeeze it or allow it to expand. The mechanical mechanism rotates a cylinder with paper on which the metal pointer records the movements from the bellow. This barograph has also a mercury thermometer in the center, in perfect working order. Under the engraved monogram we can see the serial number 112653. The box that protects the instrument is made of wood and has glass side panels. The wood is solid mahogany and the base is also made of this noble specie. The box keeps the original handle, lock and shutting hooks. This striking ship barograph is a precision instrument, still in operation, that also shows off a great decorative power.Measurements: Width: 160 mm/11.8 in. Height: 300 mm/6.2 in.
