This curious device is a marine foghorn used on board when a ship is going through a foggy place in order to reveal its presence. It is made of polished brass and is in good condition. The foghorn works fine though the sound it provides is not very loud, probably due to the use and the trace of time. This article is quite old as it was manufactured in the early 20th century; it is almost one hundred years old and a 100% original piece. The foghorn looks nice; its simple and solid design is functional and full of nostalgic charm. It is made of polished brass and the metal is in good condition, with no dents, bumps or traces of rust. The outside finish boasts a nice patina, created by the trace of time, that provides the piece with beauty and authenticity. The top piece (horn) bears an attached brass plate engraved with embossed inscriptions. It is circular in shape and shows the market name and place of manufacture: TYFON - TRADE MARK MALMO SWEDEN. It also bears an engraved serial number: 0588.At the back of the horn there is a circular brass piece with a series of holes designed to let the air out. These holes create a series of capital letters that make up an inscription: TYFON PATENT. It is an original and decorative detail. The top horn is a mobile piece: it can be folded and unfolded in order to put it parallel to the foghorns cylinder when it is not in use. To make it sound, the user will have to move the horn and put it in line with the cylinder. The handle of the valve designed to let the air inside the cylinder is made of black-painted solid wood. It is an original component that can be still manipulated to make the foghorn sound.Any lover of marine antiques will appreciate this amazing foghorn authenticity and vintage design.Measurements: Width: 11.4 in/29 mm. Height (unfolded): 33.8 in/86 cm.
