Antique thermograph with copper box and brass mechanism, made in England in the first third of the 20th century. This lovely device is designed to record the temperatures of a particular place and determine the average annual temperature.Among all the instruments component parts there is probably one missing, a small rod that presses the pointer towards the paper. Nevertheless, this detail does not interfere in the thermographs working order, which is real nice. It works in a very simple way: the device includes a wind-up clock movement that turns the cylinder with the paper, so it makes a full revolution a week. At the same time, the rest of the metal pieces register the temperature changes and transmit them to the pointer so it draws a graphic on the paper. It is a simple and fully reliable system. The brass component parts are in good condition. The brass shows some traces of rust; probably the device was used in a wet place, maybe at the sea. The copper box that protects it is greatly preserved. Screwed to the base there is a golden brass plate with an engraved inscription: BIMETALLIC THERMOGRAPH MK 3 REF. Nº MET. 1123 SERIAL Nº MO 3230 S. & J. ENGINEERING (HENLEY) LTD. On the other hand, the clock movement bears the following words engraved in the metal: STANDARD DRUM TYPE S REF. NO. MET. 2414 GLUCK ENGINEERING. And last but not least, the wind-up key is also marked with the words HORSTMANN BATH ENGLAND. Its amazing working order and singular charm turn this antique thermograph into a collectors piece, so beautiful and special. Measurements: Width: 10.6 in / 27 cm. Height: 5.1 in / 13 cm.
