This striking antique barograph was made in France circa 1900 by the prestigious manufacturer of scientific instruments Richard Frères Constructeurs. It is a charming and interesting machine, both technologically and aesthetically speaking. The bar graph preserves all its original component parts in excellent condition; the wooden base and the cover are also greatly preserved. The clockwork works perfectly. The barograph comes with two keys to make it work and two ink pointers to draw the graphics on the paper roll. At the base of the brass cylinder with the paper roll we find a series of interesting inscriptions. One of them tells us that this is an 8-day cylinder, and the other is the manufacturing companys mark. It contains the initials RF corresponding to Richard Frères Constructeurs Breveté. This company was a famous scientific measuring instrument maker founded in the second half of the 19th century. Their barographs, compasses and other instruments can be found in the most important collections and museums of the world The barograph that we can see in the images shows the same mark engraved in the brass base that supports the mechanism. This piece also bears the instruments engraved serial number: 131731. The incredibly good condition all the pieces are in is really remarkable: the metal is almost flawless, with no traces of rust or wear. The two keys that come with the barograph are for different duties: one of them is the winding key and the other is used to adjust the mechanism. The base and the cover are made of solid mahogany wood and remain in great condition too. As decorative as authentic, this wonderful barograph is worthy of the best museum of antique machines and instruments. Measurements: Width: 11.6 in / 29.5 cm. Height: 6.2 in / 16 cm.
