This curious and attractive instrument is an antique anemometer, complete and its original storing case. The anemometer is in good condition and perfect working order. It was made in London, England by the prestigious company Negretti & Zambra, manufacturers of scientific instruments which were appointed official supplier of Queen Victoria and King Eduard VII. It is signed by the company; we can see their name both in the label and the instrument. The anemometer is composed of a black-lacquered iron circular base with three brass legs that support the instrument itself. Attached to it by two iron rods we can see the helix, composed of a series of vanes inside an iron ring. The wind information obtained from the vanes movement is transmitted to the mechanism, and this reflects its speed in four dials (a main hand and three secondary hands). Last but not least, the solid mahogany case where the anemometer is stored is in very good condition. Inside the cover there is a label with the serial number (also printed in the dial), the correction to be applied (add 30 feet/minute) and some useful advice. As curious as fascinating, this antique Negretty & Zambra anemometer will delight every lover of turn-of-the-century scientific instruments. Measurements: Width: 3.1 in / 8 cm. Height: 3.1 in / 8 cm.Negretti & Zambra History Negretti & Zambra was founded in 1850 by Henry Negretti (1818-1879) and Joseph Zambra (1822-1897), both born in Italy, to manufacture scientific (philosophical) and optical instrument. The business was located in London and it also included a photo studio. The company created by Negretti and Zambra would eventually be appointed official opticians and scientific instrument makers to Her Majesty Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and later to King Edward VII. They also made instruments for the Royal Observatory and the British Admiralty. The company also commissioned different photographers to document relevant events such as the Opium War which confronted China and Great Britain from 1839 and 1942.
