Striking weather station made in the 1960s in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). This station was made by Huger brand and is in perfect condition and working order. The article is the Sputnik model and has a thermometer, a barometer and a hygrometer. The name Sputnik was given to the article after the first artificial satellite Sputnik I, which was launched to the space by the USSR in October of 1957. This weather stations design is clearly inspired in the satellite, and boasts a great beauty and a high technical perfection. The device is made of golden brass with black lettering, scales, numbers and symbols. The mechanisms are protected by a wide transparent acrylic sphere and they are supported by a brass black bakelite pedestal. All the parts and gears are in perfect condition and work like new. At the bottom of the sphere we can see a metal crown with a graduated scale and charming drawings depicting clouds and suns in different states. This crown is actually a barometer designed to tell the weather depending on the pressure. At the top there is also a thermometer with Celsius and Fahrenheit degrees, and a hygrometer which measures the humidity level in the atmosphere.Printed on the barometers crown we can see the following inscription: West Germany HUGER BAROMETER, which indicates the place where the device comes from and the manufacturing brand. All the brass pieces are original and they are also in striking good condition, with no rusted or worn parts. The acrylic sphere is also wonderfully preserved: clean and transparent, with no cracks or scratches. As well as a spectacular and highly decorative piece, this weather station is a functional item and a real tribute to the beginning of the Space Age.Measurements: Width: 160 mm. Height: 190 mm.
