Lovely Edison Standard Phonograph from the beginning of the 20th century, complete and with all its original parts. The first phonograph was developed by Thomas Alba Edison in 1877, and it was a device that transcribed sounds through indentations on a metal cylinder with tin foil wrapped on it. The Edison Phonograph Company was formed in 1887 to market Edison's machine. He introduced the Improved Phonograph by May of 1888, shortly followed by the Perfected Phonograph. The phonograph is in great condition in spite its old age. It works perfectly and provides a neat, clean and clear sound. The horn and the reproducer are both original. The phonograph comes with two cylinders, playing each one a two-minute tune. The great condition of the oak-wooden and metal parts is highly remarkable, and so is the beautiful sticker on the front of the box which reproduces the name of the model: Edison Standard Phonograph. The elegant and sober box is made of solid oak wood. The joints which assemble the different parts are dovetail joints, a strong and nice assembling system which in this case is especially delicate. The cover which protects the phonograph is made of oak wood, and both parts show a satin finish. The cranks handle is made of reddish wood covered with a bright varnish. The mechanism is made of black-lacquered metal with some parts of silvery metal. The horn is the original one, something very rare as these pieces are not usually preserved. Both the reproducer and the motor are original, a hundred per cent authentic pieces. The reproducer bears an engraved inscription with the name of the original distributor (NATL PHONO.CO.), and telling that the reproducer is licensed for use only on Edison phonographs. On the mechanisms front we can see an inscription in elegant golden lettering which guarantees that this is an original device: TRADE Thomas A. Edison MARK. A real display of details which turn this beautiful original Edison phonograph in a coveted piece, perfect to complete the best collection of any music lover who can also appreciate the finest antiques.
