Longines Silver Watch, 1895

Longines sterling silver pocket watch made in Switzerland in 1895. As well as being a very well preserved and functional piece, this watch stands out because of its size, a little bigger than similar models dating from the same time. Its movement is in perfect condition and has been fully revised so it provides an impeccable working order. The watchs face is white and the box is made of silver, with fire-gilt parts. The faces design is simple and elegant, with black Arab numbers, secondary hand and slim and stylized hands. The word Longines is printed at the top of the face in the elegant calligraphy typical of the brand.Longines is a prestigious brand in the field of watchmaking. The company was founded by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier (Switzerland) in 1832. From then on they have manufactured millions of watches that stand out for their high elegance and precision. Longines watches have taken part in very important events of the 20th century such as the first Modern Olympic Games or the expeditions to the geographic Poles. Inside this watchs rear cap we can see the brand logo (an hourglass) with the market name LONGINES.Under this inscription we can also see a capercaillie-shaped hallmark that indentifies Swiss items with silver content above 80%. Such number (0,800) is engraved in the metal too, and just under it we can see the watchs serial number: 1021177. The dustcap is decorated with a nice engraving depicting eight medals awarded to the firm in various expositions, together with the inscription GRAND PRIX PARIS 1899. If we lift this cap inside we will find the same hallmarks and serial number that are engraved in the rear cap. Lest but not least, the movement bears the engraved brand name in capital letters and also a mark reading G.F. We are looking at a very special and antique watch that stands out because of its quality, great working order and big size.
