This fine and curious pocket watch is a collectors piece, a gold-plated item made in the United States circa 1899 (1895-1899). The clock has a Waltham movement and a box made by Elgin, two of the most prestigious and relevant watchmaker companies of the United States during the 20th century. The watch boasts a very special design: differently from the classic pocket models with hinged rear cap, this one has a screw cap. All the pieces are gold plated and have survived to our days in quite good condition, turning this watch into a beautiful article. The watchs face bears the name WALTHAM printed in black lettering. The Waltham Watch Company was founded in 1864 by a number of partners in Watlham, Massachusetts. Its real name was American Waltham Watch Co. (AWWCo), name that survived until 1907 when it was substituted by the simpler Waltham Watch Co. This powerful manufacturer produced over 40 million watches, compasses and other precision instruments. On the other hand, in we look inside the rear cap we will find the following engraved inscription: Illinois WACTH CASE CO. ELGIN U.S.A. This indicates that though the movement was made by Waltham, the watchs box was manufactured by the Elgin National Watch Company, a watchmaker founded in 1864 that ceased its production in 1968.Under the companys name we can also see a zoomorphic logo together with the inscription THE WINNER GUARANTEED 20 YEARS. The watchs serial number is engraved immediately below: 2071553. Under the rear cap we can see the beautiful movement, with finely decorated metal pieces and the manufacturers name, A.W.W.Co. WALTHAM, MASS. clearly engraved in the metal. To the right of this inscription we can see the movements serial number: I6663609.This pocket watchs peculiar design and the prestige of the companies that made it, together with its inner beauty, turn it into an exceptional piece.Measurements: Height (with crown): 63 mm.
