This antique and stylish pocket watch is an article original from the 18th century, circa 1790. It is a verge pocket watch with French movement. The watch has been revised and fine-tuned so we can guarantee a perfect working order. It preserves the original winding key and is in quite good condition in spite of being more than two hundred years old. The box is made of hand-engraved sterling silver and has hallmarks inside the rear cap and in the piece that connects the box and the crown.Verge-escapement watches are also known as crown wheel watches. The verge escapement is the first known type of mechanical escapement. This kind of movement was highly popular between the 14th century and the 19th century. The name comes from the Latin word virga that stands for stick or rod and refers to the verge that connects with the crown wheel. If we lift this watchs rear cap (flat and without any engraved decoration) we will see the movement with the mentioned wheel and the rest of the gears: a great example of quality and precision. Inside the rear cap there is an engraved hallmark with two initials, and also the numbers 77 2 engraved in the metal. The piece that connects the box and the crown also bears the number 77. On the other hand, the watchs face is white with Arab black numbers. It boasts a simple and elegant design with metal handles adorned with rosettes. At the top we can see the hole designed to introduce the key and wind the watch. It comes with the original winding key, made of iron and with a nice polished brass top half.
