Lovely verge pocket watch made in the 18th century, with silver box and French movement. This singular article is fully original and is more than two hundred years old; it is an exclusive and very special piece. The watch has been cleansed and tuned so it provides a perfect working order. It has a quality movement that preserves all its original component parts and gears. The watchs box is made of sterling silver and stands out because of its original octagonal design. The piece that connects the box and the crown bears a hallmark at the front, just over the face. The watch has a white face with smart black Arab numbers. The golden metal handles are straight in shape with no adorns or filigrees at all, something that increases the watchs elegant look. At the top of the face we can see a hole designed to introduce the winding key. The key is the original one and is shaped as a pointed cylinder, with a rough surface intended to grab and manipulate it easily. As stated before, the watch has verge-escape movement: this escapement is the earliest known type of mechanical escapements and can be found in clocks and watches made between the 14th and 19th centuries. The type-name verge is due to the rod that we can see in the movement and makes it work. This piece is named this way from the Latin virga, meaning stick or rod. If we open the watchs box, inside we can see the delicate movement with this particular piece. On the other hand, inside the rear cap there is an engraved serial number: 7378. Just over it there is a hallmark: a diamond with the initials SST inside. This amazing silver pocket watch is the perfect piece for the most demanding collector, but it can also be an unforgettable gift. Measurements: Height (with crown): 57 mm. Width: 47 mm.
