Beautiful Art Nouveau Style Solid Silver Pocket Watch. Switzerland, 1910

This great pocket watch is an antique piece made in Switzerland and with sterling silver box with hallmarks. The watch dates from 1910 and boasts a wonderful Art Nouveau-style decoration engraved in its rear cap that provides it with class and distinction. It is in good condition and its movement has been fine-tuned so now its working order is excellent. At the front of the piece, the silver ring that surrounds the face shows tiny signs of wear that can hardly be appreciated with the naked eye. This detail, though, does not interfere at all with the beauty of the watch or its elegant design. The front side of the watch is composed of the white face with black Arab numbers and the front cap, with a silver ring and a glass circle. The white face bears the word TRAVAIL printed into a diamond at the top, and a second hand under the main straight hands. Over the watchs face, the piece that connects the box and the crown bears a hallmark with the shape of a capercaillie: this mark is used to identify Swiss sterling silver. As stated before, the rear cap is outside decorated with an intricate vegetal motive skillfully engraved. This motive depicts a flowery plant with stems that twist and turn, covering the whole surface. Inside, the rear cap bears several hallmarks and inscription. The capercaillie mark is also engraved here and we can also see a royal crown with a waning moon, the silver proportion (LEC 0,800), the word GALONNE into a wavy rectangle and the serial number 810501. Inside the dustcap, located immediately under the rear cap, we can see again the serial number together with the word METAL meaning that this particular piece is not made of silver. The beautiful and delicate movement rests under the dustcap; it is in perfect working order and shows a nice decoration engraved in one of its component parts.
