This beautiful and singular pocket watch is an antique lovely piece. It is a gold-plated Elgin watch, decorated with hand-engraved motives. The watch has been revised and fine tuned and nowadays it works perfectly. The delicacy of its decoration turns it into an exclusive article, full of timeless elegance and with a remarkable design; its small size is also a curious and nice feature. The front cap shows a fine hand-engraved motive depicting a country landscape inside a lobed frame and adorned with flowery garlands, fringes and volutes. Over the landscape we can see a flat shield designed to contain the initials of the watchs owner. The cap protects a nice white face with black Roman numbers. It has a secondary hand and bears the manufacturers name, Elgin, printed in the white background. The Elgin National Watch Company was founded in Chicago in 1864 by Philo Carpenter, Howard Z. Culver, (then-Chicago mayor), Benjamin W. Raymond, George M. Wheeler, Thomas S. Dickerson, Edward H. Williams and W. Robbins. For decades, the Elgin factory was the biggest place dedicated to watchmaking in the world. After many years of success, in 1968 the company ended their production and the rights to the brand Elgin were sold to MZ Berger Inc. who currently manufactures watches in China under the Elgin market name. This magnificent watch is a survivor from the brands golden years. Inside the front cap we can see the watchs serial number, 274060, engraved in the metal. The rear cap bears a hand-engraved motive similar to the one in the front cap, just slightly different. Inside we can see a label with a printed blue text providing us with detailed information about the watch, including the serial number written by hand with red ink. The dustcap is also engraved with the following inscription: WADSWORTH PILOT GUARANTEED 20 YEARS and again the serial number. As for the movement, is lovely and precise: it bears the serial number 7672720 engraved in one of its component parts and also the companys name in an elegant lettering. This delicate gold-plated watch, with hand-engraved decoration and in wonderful working order, is an antique jewel worthy of a real gentleman. Measurements: Width: 37 mm. Height (with crown): 47 mm.
