This is an Elgin watch, made by the prestigious brand of this name that was one of the most important North American watchmakers for more than one hundred years. The watch has gold-filled box made by Keystone and is extremely beautiful. The movement has been cleaned and fine-tuned so the watch works perfectly. In spite of being so old, this article is in excellent condition and has survived to our days as attractive and elegant as when it was made. The face bears the name ELGIN in black capital letters. The watchs movement is also signed with the inscription ELGIN NATL. WATCH CO USA. The company was founded in the United States in 1864 and remained active until 1964. During more than one century, the Elgin complex was the biggest watchmaking factory in the world. On the other hand, inside the rear cap we can see an engraved inscription that reads KEYSTONE WATCH CASE, indicating that the box was made by the group that Teophilus Zurburg after bringing together a series of North American case-making companies. The mark J. Boss and the scale drawing tell us that the case is made of gold-filled material, a technique developed and patented by James Boss in 1859. The watchs front and rear caps are decorated with a fine hand-engraved vegetal-inspired motive with a flat shield in the middle. Inside the front cap we can see the serial number 6343186. Under this cap, the face shows off a stylish design with black Roman numbers, golden hands and secondary hand. The rear cap bears number 343186 engraved inside. If we lift the dustcap we will reach the magnificent movement with several inscriptions engraved in its pieces: the manufacturers signature, a decorative motive, the words SAFETY PINION and the serial number 8804757.
