This wonderful pocket watch is a real classic in its field: it is a Longines watch with sterling silver box, in perfect working order and very well preserved. The box and the movement were made by the Swiss brand in 1920 and they are both signed by the manufacturer. The movement has been fine-tuned and nowadays the watch works perfectly. Part of the box surface is delicately gold-plated; the box also bears hallmarks in different parts that testify for the quality and the origin of the silver it is made of. The front cap is made of glass and has an outside gold-plated silver frame. Under the glass we can see the watchs face, with white background and black Arab numbers. The brand name LONGINES is printed in it too. This historic watchmaker company was founded in 1867 by Ernest Francillon, from the watchmaker workshop owned by his uncle Auguste Agassiz and located in the city of Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Francillon designed the famous brand logo depicting a winged hourglass. That year the firm launched their first watch movement, but it was in 1868 when they produced the first movement that could be wound up operating the crown and without a key. Longines has been the official timekeeper in several Olympic Games, among them the first games of the Modern Era. Now it is part of the powerful Swatch group. The rear cap boasts a beautiful engraved shield with a flowery garland framing it. In its inner face we can see the brand logo, the silver proportion (0.800) and the watchs serial number: 2847501. There is also a hallmark with a capercaillie that identifies Swiss silver. The dustcap is decorated with some engraved medals and inscriptions, and its inner face bears the same marks as the rear cap. The movement is signed by Longines and one of its component parts bears the same serial number engraved in the metal. Because of its prestige and quality, this pocket watch deserves a place of honor in a good collection of classic and antique watches. Measurements: Width: 50 mm. Height (with crown): 61 mm.
