Longines Gold Watch, ca. 1900.

This beautiful pocket watch is a great piece because of its nice design and fine movement. It is a solid gold Longines pocket for medical use and made in Switzerland in the early 20th century (circa 1900). This watch includes stopwatch function. The box is made of 14 k solid gold. The watch is in very good condition in spite of being more than one hundred years old. The movement works perfectly, both for the time keeping and the chrometer function. Iin order to guarantee this, it has been fully cleaned and fine-tuned by a professional watchmaker. The clocks face bears the name LONGINES printed in black lettering. Also, the dial indicates that it's graduated for measuring 30 beats so we can guess that is a doctor's watch for medical use. The brand Longines is the market name of the watchmaker company founded in 1867 by Ernset Francillon in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Starting in his uncles small workshop, Francillon stablished a foundation for what in the future would become one of the most prestigious watchmaker companies around the world. The Swiss brand has been present in several Olympic Games, where their watches were chosen as official stopwatches. Longines is currently part of the Swatch Swiss group. The face bears black and red Arab numbers and different inscriptions. We can also read the name E. KOFMEHL-STEIGER ZURICH, corresponding to a Swiss jewelry business. The rear caps inner side bears different hallmarks and inscriptions engraved in the metal: the brand name, the gold proportion (0,585) and the Swiss gold hallmarks. One of these hallmarks, the one that depicts a capercaillie, is also engraved in the piece that connects the crown and the ring. The same serial number, 4524140, is engraved inside the caps and in the movement. The movement is signed with the brand name and looks wonderful, with its small and delicate component parts greatly preserved.
