Antique Waltham 14K Solid Gold Waltham Pocket Watch. United States, 1899

Beautiful hunter case 14-carat solid-gold Waltham pocket watch in amazing condition and working fine. The watch shows a lovely engraved decoration in its front cap, being an elegant and stylish model. The movement is signed and it's in excellent working order. Both the case and the movement preserve the engraved marks and serial numbers that make it possible to locate the watchs manufacture in the USA and to date it in 1899. The watchs face bears the printed inscription CRONÓMETRO VICTORIA A.W.W.CO. WALTHAM. These words reveal that this is a Cronómetro Victoria, a model produced by the American Waltham Watch Company in the late 19th century. The company, was later known as Waltham Watch Co., launched this model (together with a higher-quality model, the Cronómetro Supremo) in order to compete with the European makers in the Latin American market, especially with the Patek Philippe Cronómetro Góndolo. The gold boxes were made by Fogel and were identified by a sun logo engraved inside the rear cap. The watch that we can see in these photographs bears a beautiful flat shield engraved in its front cap, framed by a fastened belt. The face is white with black Roman numbers, golden hands and a secondary hand. The rear cap is decorated with a simple net-shaped background, and in its inner side we can see the stated sun logo over the word ESTRELLA; this model would also be marked with the words Helios and Sol. Under the word remain the carat number, 14K, and the boxs serial number, 57418. The lovely movement is signed with the manufacturing companys name and the model, and bears the serial number 10882652. At the boxs edge we can see again its own engraved serial name, partially erased.
