Antique Artillery Officer's Pocket Chronometer Clock. France, Circa 1910

Fascinating silver-plated-metal pocket watch and chronometerfor artillery officer, designed to time the shots reach, and to give an accurate time. This is an antique piece, made in France in the early 20th century (circa 1910) and that nevertheless has survived to our days in excellent condition. This type of pocket watches with chronometer were widely used by French officers during the First World War. They were high quality, accurate and reliable.The watchs movement has been fully checked and cleaned so today it works perfectly. All its component parts and pieces are original and remain wonderfully preserved, making up an attractive and interesting article. The chronometers face is quite remarkable. It has white background and glass cap, and is divided in concentric sections with numbers in different colors (red, blue, black and green). The central circle contains the time numbers in black Arab characters and two secondary hands too. The hands are made of copper and boast a straight and elegant design. The section located just outside this circle contains a French inscription in red lettering, together with several numbers: CALCULÉ PAR 1000 METRES DE DISTANCE. This sentence indicates that the stopwatch was intended to calculate the time taken by artillery shots to reach the target, and use this calculation in order to get the reached distance in meters. The rear cap is made of undecorated silver-plated metal and we can see the word ARGENTAN (silver-plated in French) engraved in its inner side, together with the number 456. Under this cap we find the dustcap, with no decoration too and with the same number engraved inside. The movement is composed of delicate brass and metal gears and component parts, perfectly preserved and boasting a flawless working order. This wonderful pocket watch for artillery officer is a very original piece, an exclusive item for its ancient age, it's history and it's amazing operation condition. Measurements: Width: 53 mm.
