Solid Gold Pocket Watch of the Union Horlogere. Switzerland, 1900

This watch that you are looking at and that I have in front of me, was made in Switzerland in the late 19th or early 20th century, in Switzerland by Union Horlogere. You may not be familiar with this name, as the company disappeared in the 1970s with the advent of quartz watches. Today it is known as Alpina International Watch S.A., the Swiss company that markets Alpina watches.The Union Horlogere was founded in 1883 by Gottlieb Hauser, a watchmaker from Winterthur, who founded the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation (Union Horlogère Suisse). A number of watch manufacturers joined together to purchase watch components and organized their manufacture. All representatives of the Union Horlogère depended on the Association, which aspired to sell high-quality watches under the Alpina brand. The new concept quickly gained acceptance. Together with qualified manufacturers, the Association began to develop its own calibers and to expand its distribution network.Specifically this watch dates from around 1900. The material is 14K solid gold. The gold counter on its covers is a squirrel, which indicates that it was made in Switzerland between 1893 and 1934. That's enough to narrow down the period. But if you notice, there is a little lever next to the number four. This little lever is used to set the time. This system is typical of the late nineteenth century. After 1900 it was no longer used. Therefore, the clock is dated between 1893 and 1910. To avoid understatement, I say 1910, but I would date it closer to 1900.The clock is in perfect working order. The machinery is in perfect working order and will tell the hours for decades. The dial has Arabic numerals and is in perfect condition with no cracks or damage. Both the dial, the covers and even the machinery is signed with the UH logo. The case measures 53 mm in diameter and is flawless, the rosette on the front is not engraved! These are the most valuable pieces, the ones with the unengraved rosette. And it retains its original period case. The watch you have in front of you is perfect to give it as a gift, because you deserve it, or to give it to someone special to you who also deserves this gift and more.
