Lepine Verge Fusee Watch, England, Double Solid Silver Case. Rare pocket watch over 200 years old, circa 1765-1790, 18th century, solid silver double case, superbly preserved and fully operational. In perfect working order. The clock is signed by its maker, master clockmaker Christians of London. In solid sterling silver, with case and chichon with suspension ring at twelve o'clock. The outer case is fantastically embossed by the Dutch Rotterdam jewelers of the house of Veltman & Goorissen, depicting a picaresque court scene. The embossing work is extremely fine, handcrafted. The style of the clock is Georgian (George II, 1724-1760). The case, which protects the machinery, is in smooth silver, with very light embossing, and shows contrasts on its inner face, as well as small initials "JC". The dial is protected by an empire crystal, convex, and with a small magnifying glass area in its central part. The dial is in white enamel on convex copper and the indicators are Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minute hand, all in black enamel. The hands are in gold-plated iron that originally corresponds to the watch and are Louis XIV style. The time change is made by the axis of the hands by means of a key. To access the machinery is done through the dial, lifting the iron bolt that is located below the time indication at six o'clock. The machine has a key winding system, which is delivered together with the watch, on the back of the machine, after opening the case and the case. The machinery is made of gilded brass, is in a magnificent state of preservation and operation, being the gazulla profuse and beautifully decorated. The indicator of the divisions of the regulating disc is, likewise, decorated with Arabic numerals from one to six in black enamel, engraved on a silver disc. By turning the disc clockwise to the right, a high number is indicated, which speeds up the clock; by turning it counterclockwise, it slows down. The transmission of power to the machinery is done by the system called catalina wheel escapement, which gives this curious name to this type of watch, which comes to commemorate the death of the martyr St. Catherine on a wheel. Outer case diameter: 50 mm. Watch diameter: 41 mm.
