Rare Swiss Chronograph Pocket Watch in 18kt Solid Gold, 1900, with quarter repeater, from the house of Invicta. 55 mm in diameter. It consists of a beautiful smooth 18kt yellow gold case with a double lid and machinery dust cover, contracted on all three lids. It has a white lacquered dial with Arabic numerals and circular chronograph scale. It also has a small circular seconds dial at six o'clock. It has decorative Louis XIV type openwork hands in gold of beautiful workmanship and second hand in the center in black. In the center of the dial is written the watch brand: INVICTA. Serial number 87 569. The back cover hides the inscription of the medals that the house of this watch has: "Medailles d'or. Paris 1896, Geneve, 1896 and Bordeaux, 1895" accompanied by the mark of the watch. The opening of a second cover reveals the magnificent machinery. It has a quarter chime and is in perfect working order. Made in solid gold, we can find the stamp that testifies its value in the three covers. Attached antique case. The invention of the spring mechanism in the 1500's gave rise to portable watches that were worn on a lanyard. Finally the lever escapement eventually replaced the other escapements, and was used in virtually all mechanical watches. At the end of the century, the double case that we find in this example began to be used for the protection of the watch. The Invicta brand (Invincible in Latin) developed the first handcrafted watches at the beginning of 1837. Founder Raphael Picard wanted to make the excellent quality of Swiss watches available to more people at a more affordable price.
