Antique Silver Gilt Silver Pocket Watch, 1895

Fine antique ladies pocket watch with gold-plated solid silver case and in really good condition. The watch case bears different hallmarks depicting recognizable animal shapes: a small crab, a big bird and a swan. The crab is the mark for small 800 silver items made in France from 1838; on the other hand, the swam is the mark for French silver watch cases made from 1893 on. The watch movement has been fully cleaned and fine-tuned so today it works perfectly. The solid silver watch bears a delicate gold-plated finish that matches the lean silver of the ring and the piece that connects the crown and the case. This creates quite an attractive design. Inside the rear cap we can see the engraved inscription PLAQUÈ OR related to this finish. The watchs face is protected by the original glass cap; it is white and bears black Arab numbers, in perfect condition and clearly legible. The hands are made of filigree golden metal and boast a nice and elegant design. Over the face, the ring and the piece that connects the crown and the case bear the hallmarks stated before. The rear cap is decorated with a lovely hand-engraved motive that depicts a small bird flying near a stylized flower. It is a charming and fine motive, performed with skill and elegance. Inside this cap we can see the stated inscription together with the silversmiths hallmark, the serial number 31165 and the small crab; this mark indicates that this piece is also made of solid silver.
