Antique Pocket Watch Stand with Pocket Watch. 1903

Lovely sculptural mantel clock composed of an antique bronze stand with a John Forrest pocket watch mounted inside. The piece is beautiful and original and remains in excellent condition, as we can see in the images. The watch is an original piece, made in England in 1903 and with solid-silver casing. It is mounted in the bronze stand in a permanent way. The rear cap is not perfectly connected to the casing, but as the watch is fixed to the stand this detail has no relevance. The item is accompanied of an ancient key modified to wind up the watch.The watchs rear cap bears a lean shield engraved in its surface. Its inner side bears the English silver hallmark (with the shape of a lion) and two more hallmarks corresponding to Birmingham (an anchor) and year 1903. We can also see number 26. The silver dial bears gold or gold-plated-silver Roman numerals and Index-type cobalt-blue metal hands. It also bears the inscription JOHN FORRESTER LONDON CHRONOMETER MAKER TO THE ADMIRALS. John Forrest was a prestigious English watchmaker who died in 1871. After his death, his name kept on being used as a brand name for quite a long time. The bronze stand is as attractive as interesting as the watch. Antique and original, it is a sculptural romantic-style piece. It has a mahogany-wooden foot which supports a bronze base, decorated with an embossed motive depicting an allegory of music. Over this base and to the right we can see the proper clock, composed of the pocket watch attached to a bronze casing. To the left there is a delicate Cupid figure; the child is putting a laurel wreath on which seems to be a couple of hearts, located on top of the clock. All these details make up a gorgeous and charming piece with a nostalgic and elegant feel. This beautiful bronze stand with an antique John Forrest watch is perfect as a mantel clock for a classy study. It will shine too on the mantelpiece of a stately dining room.
