Antique Pocket Watch in 18K Gold. Royal Coat of Arms. Havana - Switzerland. 1895

Lovely Geneva sabonette pocket watch with 18K solid gold case, with front and back covers hand engraved with magnificent heraldic motifs of the Spanish Royal House, era of Alfonso XIII. The watch is Swiss made but comes from Havana (Cuba) and is dated 1895. The watch is in excellent condition and works wonderfully. The gold case of the watch has three covers. The front and back covers have a beautiful hand engraved decoration; on the front we can see the coat of arms of King Alfonso XIII surrounded by a triangular border. On the inside we find a contrast with a woman's head, the 18K stamp (corresponding to 18 karat gold), a mark with initials and the numbers 4 and 8. The back cover is decorated with a beautiful symmetrical flower motif. Inside, we find the same contrasts as on the front, but in this case the complete serial number appears: 48048. Under the front cover, the gold and silver dial appears protected by the original crystal panel. The numerals are Roman numerals. Under the back cover we find the 18K gold dust cover, with a hand engraved inscription: EMILIO MASSON - Calle del Teniente Rey Nº 1 - HABANA. This is most probably the name and address in Havana of the store that sold the watch. The detail of the coat of arms on the front cover suggests that the owner was a supporter of the King during the Cuban War, and had to return to Spain at the end of the war. The clock appears cataloged in the book Relojes de Bolsillo y Sus Mecanismos, by Vicente Martín Sánchez. The book does not describe a pocket watch like this one, but this one itself. The book is not included but can be purchased online.
