Lovely antique pocket watch and chronometer in 18K solid gold, made in Switzerland in 1885. The watch is in excellent condition and works perfectly: the mechanism has been overhauled to leave it in top condition. This item is made entirely of solid gold; it has a considerable weight, as the case contains a large amount of gold. The exterior is decorated with oatmeal grain guilloché on both sides. The decoration on the front lid includes a plain central circle without engraving, intended to house the owner's initials. If we lift the front cover, on its inner side we will see different inscriptions: the seal corresponding to the carats (18K), a fantastic hand-engraved logo depicting a dragon holding a shield with the initials of the manufacturer (EHJ& Co.), the contrast of Swiss gold and the figures 05, the last of the serial number. The dial under the cover is white, with fine black Roman numerals and Breguet hands. On the inside of the back cover appear the same inscriptions as on the front, although in this case the serial number appears in full: 46305. Under the back cover rests the dust cover, on the exposed face of which is a delicate hand-engraved inscription in cursive script: Chronograph - E.H. Jaccard & Cie Geneve. This name identifies the manufacturing company, whose initials correspond to those engraved on the logo on the front cover of the watch. The company was founded in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1850. They specialized in the manufacture of complication watches: chronometers, chronographs, double escapement mechanisms, astronomical watches... In 1906 the company changed its name to Perusset & Didisheim. Under the dust cover we finally find the mechanism, with the aforementioned serial number engraved on one of its parts. As beautiful as it is aristocratic, this superb antique 18K gold pocket watch and chronometer will stand out in any collection or gathering. Measurements: Width: 54 mm. Weight: 142 g.
