Very rare oversized antique silver pocket watch with calendar and moon phases. This is quite a big watch (77 mm diameter), made in 1890 in Switzerland for the French market. This feature is indicated by the hallmark that we can see in different parts of the watchs casing, depicting a lying sphynx. This hallmark was used in France to mark import silver articles (mainly watches) between 1838 and 1893. Such big-sized pocket watches are quite rare, being very sought-after items. The watchs white dial bears black Roman numerals, calendar, moon phases and secondary hand. It mounts two fine coppery-metal Louis XV hands. The silver casings front cap is decorated with a hand-engraved shield with place to house the owners initials. This caps inner side bears the hallmark stated before and the engraved serial number 56344. The dust cap shows off this same serial engraved at its front side, while its inner side bears the sphynx mark. Imposing and remarkable attractive, this rare oversized antique silver pocket watch with calendar and moon phases will draw anyones attention in any self-respecting collection. Measurements: 77 mm.
