Antique pocket watch with minute repeater and 18K solid-gold casing, made in Switzerland circa 1880 and in excellent condition. The watch works perfectly the movement has been thoroughly cleaned and tuned in order to guarantee a great performance of the watch and the repeater. The solid-gold casing is completely decorated with hand-engraved motifs performed with skill and precision and very well preserved. Though the top and rear caps bear exactly the same decoration, the front shield is empty (to house the owners engraved initials) and the back shield is decorated with flowers. The decorative motif is composed of flowers and volutes and is clearly of modernist or art-nouveau style, a trend that was booming in the late 19th century. It depicts a central shield framed by three flowers with long stems that intertwine creating a symmetrical and stylish image. The motifs are deeply engraved and full of details, making up a first-class work. If we lift the front cap, inside we will find the mark of the 18K gold and the serial number 42447. Under the front cap, the fine white dial with black Arab numerals looks as simple as elegant. It mounts straight cobalt-blue metal hands. When the watch was new the brand name was surely printed at the top of the dial, but currently it has been almost completely erased by the trace of time. At the back of the watch, the rear caps inner side contains the same inscriptions as the front cap; it also bears the Swiss gold hallmark. Under this cap there is a lean and non-engraved dustcap, also made of solid gold and with the same hallmarks and serial number.
