Gorgeous antique 18K solid-gold verge pocket watch with hand-engraved decoration, made in France and dated in 1790. The watch is signed by Jean Vernede (we can see his name at the dial and the movement) and remains in good working order, though it shows a delay of around 30 minutes a day. The box shows some restorations and there is a slight one at the keyhole of the dial. On the other hand, the opening button is a little hard to push but it works. The pocket watch comes with a winding and tuning key; it is not the original one but fulfills its duty perfectly. The watchs casing is made of 18K solid gold and is decorated with a rear hand-engraved motive. This motive contains a series of symbols that make up a symmetrical scene: there are two pillars that flank a triangle containing some flying birds. At the top we can see a star, the sun and the moon. The front cap is a glass pane (original) framed by an engraved gold ring; under it we can see the white dial with black Roman numerals and the name JEAN VERNEDE. The minutes are printed in Arab numerals and the hands are made of golden metal. If we lift the rear cap we will discover some marks engraved in its inner side. Among them there is a mark with the initials T.F. Under this cap we find the lovely movement with the signature of Jean Vernede engraved by hand in a fine cursive lettering, together with Nº 124. As part of the movement, the gorgeous crown wheel stands out for its lovely engravings and delicate shapes. This antique pocket verge clock is an exceptional piece for its beauty and originality. In is a charming ancient piece more than 150 years old. Measurements: Width: 47 mm. Weight: 80 g.
