Case attributed to William Rowlands of London, watch made by Daniel Buchanan, 8-9 Argyle Street, Glasgow, Scotland, UK circa 1858.Case: lepine pocket watch in solid 18K yellow gold 51mm diameter, three leaves and open dial. The case has a gold ball pendant and a gold ring, both sealed. The back cover is machined and engraved with a central shield cameo for the owner's initials (not engraved), while the inside of the cover and on the cuvette has the following distinctive hallmarks: leopard head mark for the London; the number 18 and Crown for the 18K solid gold; date mark with a lower case letter 'c' for the year 1858; the letters 'RW' for the case maker, most likely the mark of the silversmith William Rowlands of Northampton Square, London. There is a single winding aperture in the bowl.Dial: white porcelain dial with Roman hours, minute ring, seconds hand at 6 o'clock and blued steel English pike type hands. The dial is not signed.Machinery: A dust cover covers the machinery which is wound and set on time with the key. The machinery is gilt brass with an engraved stepped bridge, with a bimetallic balance wheel and a regulator index engraved on the plates. The back plate is engraved, 'Daniel Buchanan, Arglye Street, Glasgow, 40337'.Condition:In good working condition. Case - Excellent. Dial - Unsigned and in Excellent condition.
