Delicate and antique 18K gold buttonhole watch with real diamonds made in France in the period of Napoleon III (circa 1880), a very valuable item. As it usually happens with old-time buttonhole watches, this is a very rare and sought-after item; a real collectors piece. Its rareness is enhanced by its gorgeous decoration, with a number of real diamonds set in the gold case. Buttonhole watches were usually fitted in gentlemens garments (formal dinner jackets, blazers) so the wearer did not need to carry the watch inside his pocket. The model that we can see in the images surely belonged to a gentleman who was part of the French nobility or gentry, according to the valuable materials it is made of. These watches usually mount metal casing, so this one is quite a rare and special piece. As well as for its outstanding design, this watch also stands out for its excellent working order. All the movements component parts are original from the time and have been carefully overhauled in order to guarantee an optimal performance. To set the time, the user only has to press the small button located beside the crown. The small dial is located in the center of the front cap, which is made of pink gold just like the rest of the casing. Framing the glass pane we can see a series of real diamond which make the porcelain dial stand out. The dial bears blue and red Arab numbers and delicate golden metal dots. The diamonds are all original and there is no one missing. If we lift the gold rear cap, inside we will find the serial number 37396 and a hallmark shaped like a horses head. This is the mark which identifies French 18K gold for small-sized items.
