Antique 100% original B. Poitevin (Bernard Poitevin) minute-repeating solid-gold pocket watch with chronometer, made in London circa 1890 and in fine condition and working order. Bernard Poitevin was located on Rue de Vivienne in Paris, and also had offices in London and Geneva. The watch has a three-leaf outer case, the front cap decorated with an engraved gold monogram (an interlocking M/B with a Marquis crown above). This particular maker supplied retailers in several countries as well as in South America. There is a gold fully fluted ball, push button pendant and round bow at the twelve position. The dustcap is engraved No 33292, POITEVIN FABt, (First place) Medaille, Exposition de Vienne 1873. There are a couple of illegible hallmarks, most likely French gold. The white enalemed dial has black Roman hour indices, closed outer minute track with outermost fifths of a second divisions and red-painted Arabic five-minute markers, and subsidiary seconds at six with red numerals. It has steel Continental-type Spade hands and a center chronograph pointer. The dial center is marked in script, B. Poitevin, Fabt, London. This inscription stands for B. Pointevin, a watchmaker who worked in Rue de Vivienne, Paris circa 1890-1895 and had also an office in London. The movement is composed of rhodium-plated, gilt-finished nickel plates. It includes 31-35 jewels, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance and Breguet balance spring. Repeating on gongs is activated by a slide in the side of the case barrel. Stylish and timeless, this antique B. Pointevin minute-repeating solid-gold pocket watch with chronometer is a real classic. Dimensions: 51 mm.
