Antique verge fusee automaton quarter repeaer pocket watch, made in France circa 1810 and in fine condition. This is quite a beautiful watch and remains in good working order, both the quarter repeating and the moving automatons at the dial. The casing mounts three solid silver caps and silvered pendant and bow. The rear cap is made of polished silver, with the serial number 7156 engraved inside and the initials of the casemaker, CHP. The dial is made of silvered and blue-enameled metal and bears a small white enamel dial with Breguet hour numerals, outer open bar minute track and skeletonized gilt ovoid matching hands. The dial is adorned with two "Martin Martine" silver Jaquemarts of a lady and gentleman dressed in French Empire costume, on each side of the dial and on a royal blue enamel background. The figures appear to strike the hours and quarters on two silver bells. The bells sit at the top of the dial, embedded in a silver foliate. At the base of the dial we can see a lyre as part of a foliate embellishment. The watchs movement is entirely original and remains in great condition. It is a giIt-brass full plate movement including fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain 3-arm gilt balance and engraved Continental balance bridge, attached with two screws 180 degrees from each other. The movement mounts a quarter repeating work, striking with two hammers on two blued steel gongs which are activated by depressing the pendant. This gorgeous antique repeating pocket watch with automaton jacks is a real treasure, nearly 200 years old and with a charming and really original design. Dimensions: Width: 56 mm.
