Antique Pair-Case Abel Panchaud Verge Fusee Pocket Watch. London, Circa 1800

Antique pair-case Abel Panchaud verge fusee pocket watch, made in London circa 1800 and in good condition. The watch is finely preserved and remains in good working order. The brass outer case is covered in green-colored shagreen, studded with brass pins in small rosettes forms. This pique work surrounds the circumference of the bezel and the outer edge of the back cover. The outer case has a square or box type hinge and an opening for the stem of the pendant to come through the outer case. The interior of the outer case has a watch paper with the female anthropomorphic image of STRENGTH, wearing a red plumed hat while doing some manual labor with a long rod. The watch paper names watch and clockmaker Charles Harris of Bristol (Som.), who was working in the horological field prior to 1764-1784. The inner case is made of polished brass, with a long stemmed flat circular pendant and side pieces arranged in a horizontal manner. It also has a round brass bow placed at the twelve-position relative to the dial. The interior of the inner case reveals an H. There is a single winding aperture in the back cover. The watch has round white enameled dial with upright Arabic hours, open dotted minute track and gilt fenestrated Louis XVI-style gilt hands. If we open the case we will reach the watchs movement, with solid-brass plate and cylindrical brass pillars pinned at the rear plate, verge escapement with contrate wheel below and a chain-driven fusee movement. The rear plate has a foliate and floral design, with a decorative vase or wine glass at the edge of the bridge, near the foot. The bridge has a central rosette. The rear plate is signed, A Panchaud, Oxford Street, 1213.
