Antique quarter-repeating Angelus pocket watch with chronometer, made in Geneva, Switzerland circa 1900. The watch mounts a silver-plated casing and is in good working order. The dial is framed by a slim golden metal ring which provides it with richness and elegance, and preserves the original protecting glass. It is made of white porcelain and has black Arab numerals and cobalt-blue metal hands with a stylish and original shape. At the 12 position we can see the brand name, Angelus, printed in black lettering. The rear cap bears no decoration except for a central symbol (a circle with two crossed arrows and a star, probably the manufacturers logo). The ring is golden too and matches the dial frame. This antique quarter-repeating Angelus pocket watch with chronometer is a great example of the wonderful chronographs made by the brand, and preserves all its original attractive and great working order. Dimensions: Diameter 59 mm.Angelus Watches History The Angelus brand starts out in Le Locle, Switzerland, when the brothers Gustav and Albert Stolz found a firm called Stolz Frères. This company manufactured watches, watch movements, parts and components, specially casings. They chose the word Angelus as their brand name. In 1912 the company made complex watch movements with repetition and chronographs, equipped with self-produced movements. In 1942 they presented the Chronodate, the firs serially produced chronograph with calendar function. The quartz crisis which took place in the 80s meant the end of the brand, but in 2015 the firm was revived by the Swiss manufacturer La Joux-Perret.
